CUBE Tutorial – Attack Magazine (pt 1)

Our friends across the pond at Attack Magazine published a deep dive tutorial showing how to incorporate CUBE into a techno track. Attack Magazine is a London-based music website with a global audience of electronic music producers, DJs, record labels, industry insiders, and fans, publishing impartial gear reviews, artist interviews, and industry insights. This article is posted in the Technique section of Attack’s site, where they dissect cutting-edge electronic music production approaches via in-depth tutorials, tech reviews, and more.

The tutorial is a master class in using CUBE to build a massive, cinematic ambient pad from the ground up. Several of CUBE’s tried-and-true sounds are gradually added first, adjusting panning to fill out the stereo spectrum and tweaking the color settings to vary the tone of each sample. With 6 of CUBE’s corners loaded, the sound is dialed in further by importing samples from Roland’s classic JD-800 and Juno-60 synthesizers, giving it an unmistakable retro-futuristic glow.

Finally, CUBE’s Orbit feature adds subtle movement between all of the samples, and some choice effects help the sound sit better in the mix. The result is a unique, otherworldly sonic texture that contributes the main melodic line in a bouncy techno track. Have a listen below:

We LOVE seeing CUBE used in a wide variety of musical contexts, so we are absolutely thrilled to hear Attack flex the power of CUBE in the relatively uncharted terrain of electronic dance music. We’re admittedly suckers for lush pad sounds, so hearing CUBE add a massive ambient texture to this driving techno track has us even more excited for CUBE’s sonic possibilities!
